Dear Iris,
It’s been quite the time pulling this website together. Creature Tales keeps evolving as you know. Never still. Neither it should be.
Jimmy Reece has been great steering me along and fixing any glitches and now it’s here. Ta-da! So what do you think?
Guess what I did last week-end? I worked on Spirit of Tasmania with musician Guy Romeo. It was wonderful. A highlight was seeing a dolphin in the Geelong Harbour with the sun rising. A regular visitor that the crew have adopted as Darren Dazzler the Dolphin.
Of the evening sail, I noticed a woman with a groovy chair dancing style going on. She was really shaking it from the waist up. A tall, good looking gent, posh jacket, collar up, approached and sat between her and performer Guy who was belting out “April Sun In Cuba…woah, woah, woah”. He then shuffled his chair position to be not looking at the stage or the chair dancing woman but somewhere in-between, giving a profile of himself. All three of their voices were ringing out now in unison ….”woah, woah, woah.”
A lady passing between their tables waved her hands as if she was fanning a fire. “You look like you’re enjoying yourselves. Why not just sit together for goodness sake.” That’s what I imagined she was saying. They did eventually and sang along with mouths gaping in chorus to a night of Guy’s good time cover songs.
You wonder whether travelling on the ferry suspends the normalities of life and stokes your confidence to be brave and connect with someone new. I dare say none of this exchange would have happened if it not for the nostalgic 1970’s / 80’s scene Guy had set. It was excellent work from the resident musician. The audience felt both buoyed and safe in his hands.
I sincerely send my best wishes to the ‘Jack and Diane’ couple that met that night. That’s not their real names, just another song they gyrated to in their chairs.
Hope you are well Iris, speak to you soon.
Chris x
P.S. Oh, the picture at the top of the post? That’s just another happy passenger grooving to Guy’s tunes on the day crossing.
